Cream, like lotion, is a mixture of oil and water, but with a greater oil concentration. Creams, which are more substantial than lotions, create a protective layer over the skin that helps it retain an abundance of moisture. Given its consistency, body cream is typically sold in a tub or jar. As a result of the larger oil content, creams do have a greasier texture than most lotions. Similar to lotion, body cream helps cure and prevent dry, cracked skin by locking in moisture. It's ideal for dry to extremely dry skin or normal skin during the harsher winter months because it acts as a barrier that locks in moisture. Avoid applying oil-based lotions to your face unless you have extreme dryness. However, they work wonderfully on dry skin everywhere else.
